Storage Containers: Which Size is Right for Me?

20-container-1

You’ve come to realize that you are running out of space at your home or business and decide that a storage container is the solution. Those purchasing or renting a container for the first time may be unsure on how to decide which size is right for them. We offer containers that range from six feet to 45 feet. By keeping the following tips in mind, you can better decide the proper size to go with.

Measure, Measure, Measure

The first and most obvious step to take when deciding on container size is to measure your belongings. If you are just looking to store smaller, household items, you may be able to get away with a 6 or 8 foot container. If you are looking to store larger items, you’ll certainly need additional space. Also take into account the volume of items you plan to store. Are you planning to store just one item or a number of items? Don’t forget to measure the height of items as well.

Who Will be Storing Items?

Another factor to consider is how many people will be using the storage container. Will it just be you? Or will your family members/employees be using it as well? If multiple parties are involved, it is best to opt for a larger size.

Is your List of Items Finite or Evolving?

You should also ask yourself whether you will only be storing a fixed number of belongings, or plan to add to the list as time goes on. Will you be removing seasonal items at all or will the items stay put?

Accessories

When deciding on a container size, it is also a wise idea to consider accessories, if any, that you plan to add. Some accessories do take up quite a bit of space, which can leave less room for your belongings. When evaluating which size you should go with, subtract the size of any accessories you plan to utilize.

Map it Out

Once you have a decent idea of how many items you will be storing, map it all out on a piece a paper to make sure you can fit everything. As a general rule of thumb, it is better to have too much space than not enough. To view the dimensions of our storage containers, visit the following page: Storage Containers by Size
